Yoga Holidays
Deia, Mallorca.
Friday 21st to Monday 24th October 2011
A long weekend of yoga in late October. Daily yoga sessions and comfortable accommodation in a traditional Spanish village with time to enjoy the natural surroundings as you wish.
Destination
This is a wonderful opportunity to experience yoga in the idyllic setting of a beautiful Mallorcan village. Deia is in the north-west of the island of Mallorca, situated between the mountains and the sea. It is about 40 minutes drive from Palma airport. See map.
The pebble cove, called the Cala, is about 25 minutes walk down through the old part of the village and through olive groves. The Cala is a lovely place to swim, relax or enjoy food and drink, while soaking up the sun and the scenery. Set aside some time for personal study and quiet reflection in Deia's peaceful surroundings.
Accommodation
A charming traditional Mallorcan house in the centre of the village provides accommodation and a perfect space for the yoga sessions. The bedrooms have double beds and either look out over the terrace or the garden. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided plus teas/coffees through the weekend. There is alternative accommodation within walking distance at small local pensions or larger hotels with pools. The choice is yours.
Yoga
There will be 2 hours of yoga each morning and 1.5 hours each evening. The morning sessions will be more dynamic, and will include energizing postures and breathing practices, whereas the evening sessions will focus on restorative practices, including gentle breathing, meditation and relaxation.
The style of teaching is Hatha yoga, which suits all ages and abilities, see the home page for details. Some experience of yoga is useful, although during the yoga sessions Caroline will give alternative postures or breathing practices where necessary.
Free time
Coastal paths and mountain tracks provide wonderful opportunities for walking and soaking up the surrounding scenery. There is a museum in the former home of the writer Robert Graves, an archaeological museum built into the rock, galleries of art and pottery and a variety of good shops. Buses - cheap and comfortable - run through the vilage to places of interest such as Soller, Valldemossa and Palma.
Deia offers a choice of restaurants, bars and cafes serving delicious local food to suit all pockets, within 5 minutes walking distance from the accommodation. There is also a restaurant and a bar/cafe down at the Cala.
Cost
The cost is £320. This inculdes yoga tuition, accommodation in your own room and shared bathroom (with one other), breakfast, lunch, teas/coffees through weekend. It excludes flights, transfers, evening meals. Remember to bring your yoga mat.
